What is Entertaintech?

The term I coined, “entertaintech”, simply means “technology in the entertainment industry”, which is the same as Entertainment technology.

Analysis shows that 8 of 10 people anywhere in the world need to be entertained every day. Many people use their smartphones just for entertainment. They spend a huge amount of money to find entertainment. They use to trek or travel to a long-distance places to find their peace of mind. They watch games & sports, listen to music, watch videos, have fun with friends, read funny stories, watch comedies etc. They try any possible method to reduce their depression.

What’s the Significance of Entertainment in Today’s World?
During his time, Michael Jackson was more popular than any rich person in the world. In Jamaica, Bob Marley is almost considered a saint —his fans take it that, visiting his childhood home is a pilgrimage. In Nigeria, in the 1980s, Fela Kuti was also more popular than his cousin, Prof. Soyinka —one of the most educated personalities in the country.

Moreover, even an old man today would know who Cristiano Ronaldo is —he could perceive that this name belongs to a footballer. Try asking these names: Messi, Pogba, Davido, Minaj, Wizkid, Ali Nuhu, or rocking stars like Ruger, Joeboy, Breaker etc. But you would wonder too much if, at the same time you ask our youngsters who are these guys: Jimmy Wales, Sim Shagaya, Larry Page, or Jelani Aliyu.

This is to say, entertainment is more revered than inquisitiveness. People need any kind of entertainment tool to have fun and reduce their stress. So to make use of this opportunity, we need to glance at these points below.

Using Technology to Entertain People
For example, if you visit YouTube today, you would see that the videos that get the most views are entertainment-based. In my eBook eBillions Mastery, I mentioned that among the 10 Most Viewed Videos on YouTube include Music Videos, Celebrity Gossip and Comedies. As of now, Baby Shark Dance is the most viewed video on YouTube, with a total of 9.5 billion views; then followed by Despacito, a music video by one Spanish musician which gets 7.6 billion total views.

Moreover, TikTok was created in 2016 by ByteDance, a multi-billion dollar Chinese company. They considered that using technology to solve people’s problems would also solve their own problems, and this is what they did. And there are so many apps out there that use the same opportunity. For instance, iRokoTV of Jason Njoku, Naijaloaded of Makinde Azeez, ArewaBlog of Abubakar Rabiu etc.

I always say that if you find a simple point to solve a certain problem —that is to bring a bridge or innovate a new idea, you will surely make it.
